The Integra Type S, Acura's most powerful Integra ever, is driven by a turbocharged 2.0-liter VTEC® engine. This engine, also used in the RDX premium compact SUV and TLX sports sedan, has gained global recognition for its power, efficiency, and reliability. Acura has already sold nearly 300,000 vehicles in the U.S. equipped with this engine in various states of tune.

The 2.0-liter VTEC® Turbo engine has been a vital part of Acura's commitment to delivering Precision Crafted Performance. It was first introduced in the third generation RDX in 2019 and later found its way into the TLX sports sedan in 2021. Now, in its highest state of tune, it powers the new high-performance Integra Type S, making it the most powerful and best-performing Integra ever.

Featuring direct injection and a low-inertia high-flow mono scroll turbo system with an electric wastegate, the 2.0-liter VTEC® Turbo engine produces the horsepower and torque equivalent to a much larger naturally aspirated engine. In the RDX and TLX, it delivers a robust 272 horsepower (SAE net @ 6,500 rpm). In the Integra Type S, the output is pushed to an incredible 320 horsepower (SAE net @ 6,500 rpm). Both versions of the engine share common features such as an aluminum block, double overhead cam (DOHC) cylinder head, and dual Variable Timing Control™ (VTC™).

Part of the "K-Series" engine family, which has been in production since 2001, the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is manufactured by Honda of America Mfg. in Ohio, using both domestic and globally sourced components. Acura has already achieved impressive sales of nearly 300,000 cars and SUVs powered by various iterations of this engine.

The engine's architecture and features include a lightweight die-cast aluminum block with reinforced main bearing caps, centrifugally cast iron cylinder sleeves, and a super lightweight forged-steel crankshaft. Pistons with "cavity-shaped" crowns contribute to stable combustion and improved efficiency. The engine also incorporates oil jets for piston cooling, ion-plated piston rings for reduced friction, and high-strength steel connecting rods for enhanced durability.

The cylinder head of the direct-injected 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is made of lightweight pressure-cast aluminum alloy, with exhaust ports integrated into the head itself, eliminating the need for a separate exhaust manifold. The engine utilizes a low-friction, silent chain to drive dual overhead cams and features sodium-filled exhaust valves for improved fuel efficiency, emissions, and power. The advanced valve control system combines intake and exhaust Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC) with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®) to optimize power output, fuel efficiency, and emissions.

The engine's direct-injection system enables increased torque, improved fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions. Multi-hole injectors deliver fuel directly into each cylinder, and a compact, high-pressure pump ensures efficient fuel flow. The turbocharged engine is equipped with a low-inertia mono scroll turbo system and an electric wastegate for precise boost control. The intercooler helps cool the intake air for enhanced performance.

To reduce friction and enhance efficiency, the Integra Type S engine incorporates various technologies, such as low-friction coatings on piston skirts, plateau honing of the cylinder walls, and low-friction components like oil seals, piston rings, and cam chain. The engine operates with low viscosity oil (0W-20) and features a lightweight crankshaft.

The 2.0-liter Turbo engine has a high compression ratio of 10.3:1, contributing to its impressive power output and efficiency. It is equipped with a dual-mass flywheel and a lightweight, high-strength aluminum alloy clutch housing for improved response and durability.

In terms of performance, the Integra Type S with the 2.0-liter VTEC® Turbo engine offers exhilarating acceleration and a thrilling driving experience. With its 320 horsepower and 6,500 rpm redline, it delivers strong and linear power throughout the rev range. The engine is mated to a precise and quick-shifting 6-speed manual transmission, providing full control over gear changes and enhancing driver engagement.

In addition to its impressive power and performance, the 2.0-liter VTEC® Turbo engine in the Integra Type S prioritizes fuel efficiency and emissions. It incorporates various technologies, such as direct injection, turbocharging, and VTEC® valve control, to optimize fuel combustion and reduce emissions.

The 2.0-liter VTEC® Turbo engine in the Integra Type S represents the culmination of Acura's engineering prowess and commitment to delivering a high-performance and efficient driving experience. With its power, responsiveness, and advanced technologies, it sets a new standard for performance in the Integra lineup.
